Eczema Skin Care

Eczema, also known as atopic dermatitis, is a chronic condition that affects the skin. This condition is not contagious; it cannot be passed from one person to another. The word dermatitis means skin’s inflammation. The term atopic refers to a group of conditions where there is often a genetic tendency to acquire other allergic conditions, such as hay fever and asthma. In eczema, the skin turns unusually itchy. Scratching produces swelling, redness, weeping clear fluid, cracking, and finally, scaling and crusting. When some children suffering eczema grow older, their skin condition improves or disappears altogether, although their skin often remains dry and easily irritated. In others, eczema continues to be an important problem in adulthood.
